Mephisto was awarded this title, as the first champion, on August 12, 2010. Mephisto won the predeccesor championship by defeating Sombra on May 27, 2009.
History of Championship
This championship was opened on August 12, 2010. After years of NWA asking for the championship to be returned, CMLL decided to retire the the NWA championships, replacing them with CMLL Historic championships of the same weight class. The previous champions were given new belts, making Mephisto the first champion.
