Arena Puebla Openweight Championship
The Arena Puebla Openweight Championship (Campeón de Peso Abierto de la Arena Puebla) is a location-specific CMLL championship introduced in 2026. Originally announced by Arena Puebla manager Pedro Plasencia on June 20 alongside the Arena Puebla Tag Team Championship, the cibernetico match to determine an inaugural champion was held over a month later on 27 July, following the conclusion of the multi-week Tag Team Title tournament. Plasencia specifically wanted a title that anyone of any weight could challenge for, and was open to luchadors from other regions such as Guadalajara challenging.[1]
The championship was announced when Mexico was still enjoying a groundswell of tourism thanks to Mexico's contention in the FIFA World Cup, and when Arena Puebla had an imminent extension from one weekly show to two in place. By the time the cibernetico happened, Mexico had been eliminated from the World Cup, and the second weekly Arena Puebla show had already been discontinued after just two events due to poor turnout. Thus putting the title's long-term viability in question.
