Current Champion
Guadalajara luchador El Gallo began his second reign as champion by defeating Felino.
History of Championship
Mictlan, who had previously wrestled in Guadalajara under a different name and mask, defeated fellow CMLL wrestler Misterioso II to become local champion. With in four months of winning this championship, Mictlan disappeared from CMLL, and never returned to defend the title.
The following May, the arena announced a tournament to determine a new champion. Brackets were not mentioned during the tournament, but were evident after the fact. Local tecnico favorite Gallo won the championship. After a successful defense against Evola, Gallo was frequently matched up with rudos from Mexico City, including Ephesto & Felino. The luchadors who only wrestle as Gallo are usually a level (or more) below the national guys, but Gallo got some wins and had some loses due to rudo antics. Felino challenged for a title match and picked up the title with a little more cheating.Felino, a member of the regular CMLL roster, defeated local El Gallo to win the light heavyweight championship on October 3, 2010.
