Notes

La Máscara is a Mexican independent wrestler, having previously spent over a decade climbing the card in CMLL. Originally a midcard tecnico, from May 2005 to December 2006 he was Mexican National Welterweight Champion, with all of his defenses having come from Mexico City. (He lost the belt to Sangre Azteca.) La Máscara is the son of Brazo de Oro, and the promotion acknowledges the relationship.

La Máscara was pushed strongly since changing to that gimmick (from Brazo de Oro Jr.), with some thinking that it might be due to his family connections. His work appeared to catch up with his push in 2006, by which time he was considered a solid high flier. Punctuated by winning that year's Reyes del Aire.

In mid-2011, after stacking up 4 more title wins (mostly the World Trios belts), he received the biggest break of his career when Mistico left for WWE, leaving his years-long rival Averno without a blowoff Apuestas match. La Mascara stepped in as a sort of replacement-Mistico (pin that thought), and unmasked Averno in the main event of Juicio Final, 2011. Mascara followed this up later in the year by winning the NWA World Historic Middleweight Championship, one of CMLL's most prestigious belts.

Alas, the coronation was not as effective as hoped. Fans were simply lukewarm on La Mascara as a major tecnico star, which added to the pre-existing nepo-push narrative. As such, in 2014 he became a founding member of Los Ingobernables with two other young tecnico prospects CMLL had failed to properly use in that role, with all three turning quasi-rudo ("técnicos diferentes"). That said, he was still basically a third wheel to fill out a trio, having never even really inspired the visceral rejection from crowds that his partners both had.

After winning several more titles and the 2016 Leyenda de Plata, he entered into a short, sudden & surprisingly-heated feud with Dragon Lee - the brother of fellow Ingobernable Rush. And, ironically enough, of the official replacement-Mistico. Having himself replaced him in the Dragon Lee mask, and become far more popular. making for a glib inverse image of Mascara's own difficulties getting over. Regardless; this culminated at the CMLL 83rd Anniversario, where Mascara lost his mask.

Less than a year later, before the implications of such an existential gimmick change could fully set in, his 14 year tenure with CMLL came to an end: The death of his father that April had been expected to result in Mascara inheriting his two-decade-long role as head of the in-house wrestler's union. Instead, it caused a political schism backstage that put his "birthright" into question. His reaction was unideal. And caused the immediate firing of multiple Brazos family members.

(As an aside, his specific egress would leave a legacy: it finally got CMLL to permanently abandon the Leyenda de Plata tradition of the prior year's winner defending the plaque.)

Mascara jumped over to AAA at the start of 2018. No doubt due - once again - to his family connections (this time to top AAA star Psycho Clown). He initially teamed with his cousins Psycho Clown & fellow-CMLL-outcast Maximo as Los Nuevos Mosqueteros del Diablo, a play on the original Brazos trio's original name. Then turned against them in August to form the rudo faction Los Mercenarios. he ultimately left AAA in turn barely a year after his debut. And a few short months before Dragon Lee - the very man that Mascara's namesake had been sacrificed to, in the name of making a long-term CMLL star - would fall out with them and pop into AAA himself.

Having left both top promotions, Mascara's notoriety greatly fell off in the 2020s, with him seemingly disappearing altogether for a year at a time. His longest absence (clocking it at 18 months) ended in October 2026 when he appeared as a special guest referee for an Arena Lopez Mateos main event. Wherein he claimed he'd been recovering from an arm injury and needed to “heal his heart".[2] He also returned to the ring as a wrestler that same day at Arena Neza, albeit with a characteristic twinge of being irrelevance; the booking was him filling in for an incarcerated Hijo de Fishman, fresh off the manslaughter of El Buho.
