Charly Manson carried this championship into the match, but did not actually get to defend it, as he only faced foreigners in his two tournament matches. Manson lost in the semifinals, and the title belt has not been seen since. [[El Mesias]], the winner of the match, did not take the belt (being from Puerto Rico, he was not eligible).
The championship has not appeared since that match. Charly Manson has said in interviews he still has the physical belt and considers himself champion, but AAA's presenting the [[AAA World Heavyweight Championship]] as the singular heavyweight championship of the promotion and using this title on TV would be counter productive to that goal. As of spring 2009, AAA's has removed all Mexican National championships from television, so it's unlikely this one will return.
