Lizmark gave up the Mexican National Middleweight Championship after winning the NWA World Middleweight Championship on June 3, 1983. EMLL held a tournament to decide the new champion.

The full format, matches and even participants in the tournament are unknown. It appears to have an unusual format: 2v2 matches were billed as part of the tournament. Partners may have changed during the tournament.
