CMLL Bodybuilding Contest

Since 2006, CMLL has held an annual bodybuilding contest at Arena Mexico. The event is notable for being a rare CMLL event the promotion has remembered to run every year since it started. CMLL's owner, Paco Alonso, usually makes an appearance to hand awards to the winners. Alonso is rarely seen in front of the public otherwise. The winners get a trophy and an undisclosed monetary prize. CMLL appears to value good showings in the tournament, as winners often (but not always) get more attention from the programming department.

CMLL divides the luchadors up into five categories: minis, women, beginners, intermediate, and advanced. The criteria for entry in each male category is a bit of a mystery; minis frequently place in the non-mini categories, and the distinction between the different levels is never made clear.

Anyone who trains at the Arena Mexico gym is eligible to participate. Luchadors who do not wrestler for CMLL (or have yet to debut) are often included.

The women's division has the least participation. After only two women participated in 2007, there was talk about encouraging more women to join in. Dark Angel has won the division every year the contest has been held.

The bodybuilding contest has been open to the public since 2009.
