Rodolfo Ruiz (86) passed away on Sunday. Ruiz was active from the early 60s to the early 90s, and did some occasional work after that. Ruiz was trained by original (and legendary) [[EMLL]] trainer [[Gonzalo Avendano]]. Ruiz was a rudo and, by the accounts of the magazines of the day, a pretty good macho character. He was also a lightweight, which led him to championships – two-time [[Mexican National Lightweight Championship|national champion]], one-time [[UWA World Featherweight Title|UWA featherweight champion]] – but also meant he wasn’t pushed outside of EMLL’s B-shows. (Ruiz got the same Pequeno Maestro nickname that [[Virus]] uses now.) On the rare occasions got to work the Friday night shows, he worked the prelim singles matches. EMLL didn’t have much use for lightweights in the big [[Mexico City]] shows, which meant most of his big work was done elsewhere. He had a multi-year rivalry with local lightweight star [[Chanoc]] in [[Acapulco]] and hair matches in the smaller Mexico City buildings. He stayed loyal to CMLL until they had no more use for him the 80s, then did stints in the [[UWA]] and in the indies.
