Former Arena Coliseo Guadalajara luchador Capitan Estrella/Eddy Montana (Juan Carlos Padilla Covarrubias) passed away on Tuesday, a few days short of his 44th birthday. He was a late 90s prelim wrestler as the masked Estrella, lost his mask in 2003 to Makabre, and then seemed to be getting a little bit of a push as Montana before suddenly disappearing from lineups. His name pops up occasionally on indie lineups in Jalisco for the rest of the decades (not that I have many of those lineups). A Japanese user on Twitter seemed to say why he may have disappeared suddenly:
I received the sad news of my friend's passing from Mexico. He and his family were incredibly kind to me, a Japanese person who couldn't understand Spanish at all, and I'm filled with nothing but gratitude. Back then, I thought he had more talent than Místico and had high expectations for him, but he was also a foolish guy who got himself expelled from CMLL for messing around with a superstar's daughter.
