Current Champion

Apolo Estrada Jr. is the current champion. He defeated Dr. Cerebro on December 8, 2013 in Arena Naucalpan of Naucalpan, Mexico State.

History of Championship

Mystery championship which appeared on Hijo del Diablo's waist one day, just in time to do a title versus title match. "WWS" stands for World Wrestling Star, as listed on the belt, but there's no indication where that promotion is based. On June 15 2006, Hijo del Diablo was scheduled to face Kidman (no relation to WCW one) for an unknown World Welterweight Championship in Zapata, Acapulco, Guerrero; it's possible this is that title.

IWRG's own welterweight championship was inactive at the time this one came in to the promotion, but both have been active. Eterno won the IWRG Intercontinental Welterweight Championship while holding this championship, but the titles were not unified and instead defended separately.

Dr. Cerebro won the belt in a title vs title match with the IWRG Intercontinental Lightweight Championship. Cerebro defended the belt against AAA's Decnnis in a promotion vs promotion battle, but lost the title to meteoric rookie Multifacetico.
