When Fuerza Guerrera left EMLL in 1986 for a short lived promotion, he vacated the Mexican National Welterweight Championship. A tournament was held to declare new champions. The tournament was called a 'lightning' tournament, which EMLL used to refer to one-night tournaments. This one-night tournament took January 27, in Arena Coliseo.
