A tournament was held for the (long) vacant Mexican National Featherweight Championship in 1980. The tournament had at least three rounds.
This championship was essentially restarted; the previous champion passed away in 1941 and the title was forgotten. It was the first 'new' championship since Promociones Mora started as its own group. The Mexico City commission made a point of including wrestlers from various promotions big and small in the tournament; eventually winner Voltio Negro was representing the Fraternidad del Santo group.
All matches took place at Arena Coliseo.
