Rizado Ruiz (Heriberto Ruiz, 91) passed away on Tuesday. He was active from the 50s through the mid 90s. The first two-thirds of his career were in EMLL, where he was usually a mid-card rudo. He won the Mexican National Welterweight Championship (the title Capitan Suicida now holds) in 1964, and was credible enough to work occasional b-show apuesta matches with bigger names. He moved to the UWA in the 80s, which included a well-remembered “Beauty and the Beast” style tag team with exotico Rudy Reyna. In EMLL, he often teamed with his brother Rodolfo Ruiz, who’s the father of CMLL’s Averno. Both the Ruiz brothers were considered very good wrestlers, just a little too small for EMLL’s tastes at the time.
