He was a boxer before getting into lucha libre. He later worked in a factory and made jewelry before getting into wrestling. He had gotten into wrestling by 1934. He was a personal friend of El Santo and was encouraged by him to take the El Santo II name. He wrestled under the Santo II name from 1954-58. He stopped using the name either due to fan confusion or almost getting Santo suspended to due Santo II missing a show. It has been said that either El Santo or Gori Guerrero later gave him the Mascara Dorada name.
