He was a boxer before getting into lucha libre. He later worked in a factory and made jewelry before getting into wrestling. He had gotten into wrestling by 1934. He was a personal friend of El Santo and was encouraged by him to take the El Santo II name. Gori Guerrero later gave him the Mascara Dorada name.
