Tanaka was an EMLL visitor from August 1974 to June 1975. His stint is best remember by Japanese fans for a claim he won the NWA World Light Heavyweight Title in a May 8, 1975 match in Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca. Tanaka claimed he defeated Wagner for the title, only to be stripped of the title post-match by the promoter for being over the weight limit. Tanaka shared a photo of himself holding the belt backstage. The story appears to be fiction; magazine reports of the match had Wagner winning without controversy (and weight-ins would be done prior to matches when weigh-ins were done at all.) | |||
