The Mexican National Lightweight Championship was declared vacant with no reason given. (Previous champion Pierrothito did appear to relocate to the United States, but his name was not mentioned.) CMLL held a 12 man tournament for the championship. The field was split up into two six man ciberneticos, with the finalists meeting in the third week.
