Today, San Luis Potosí wrestling is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved wrestlers, Curro Hernández Jr., the former promoter of Arena Coliseo.
Armando Solinger Esparza was his name, but in the world of professional wrestling, being Curro Hernández Jr. was anything but ordinary; the son of the first wrestler from San Luis Potosí to wrestle at Arena Coliseo and fate had it that he would be the one to give his last performance to the Catedral de la Lucha Libre Potosina.
A classic wrestler from the outskirts, who had a career involving matches and wrestling in arenas that had no roof, not long ago it was announced that he was the first Television Champion of San Luis Potosí, on a project led by Juan Manuel Calzada and Channel 13; a tough guy, he is remembered for his rivalries with Los Ángeles del Espacio, a glorious era with los Mensajeros del Diablo.
After his retirement, he worked as a promoter of professional wrestling, creating Curro's Lucha Libre and Entertainment (Curro's Lucha Libre y Entretenimiento), taking charge of the arena in 2012, a company that left us with great roles, wrestlers from San Luis Potosí alternating with elements of CMLL, rivalries, match-fixing, and the last big show at that arena.
He made a brief return to the ring with los Mensajeros del Diablo, leaving his hair in his last match against one of his greatest rivals, El Gavilán (RIP).
After the closure of Arena Coliseo, he embarked on a new adventure at the New San Luis Arena, a project that closed in a few years.
After his retirement as a wrestler and promoter, in 2018 he was part of the new boxing and wrestling commission, but after the pandemic, he was no longer followed.
Curro Hernández, the father of the former mixed martial artist "Yuri" Sulivan, left an indelible legacy and a mark in the documented history of professional wrestling in San Luis Potosí.
Curro Hernández did everything, he gave us the Masked Man wrestling match of the decade, he brought the concept of children's wrestling and they were so good that they even made a championship, he had high-profile championship matches at the Coliseum, he was the referee when needed, he was a promoter present in the stories and knew how to entertain the audience, he even gave "The Champion" a rap along with Galaxia 79, he gave the last great show to the Coliseum arena in those cibernetico tournaments where many of the wrestlers who are now breaking through today stood out.
We can count and say a thousand stories, that's how important the legacy of one of the figures who contributed the most to wrestling in San Luis and who always kept a low profile, a reserved man but always with the warmth of a good wrestler.
