The family's name derives from the original Misterioso's trainer, the original Rey Misterio. Who was so impressed by his student as to originally give him the name Rey Misterio II.
Either-or-both of Misterioso's "nephews" might be nothing of the sort, and instead simply independent luchadors who paid for the rights to be treated as his family.[1] Alternatively, there is some belief that the Monterrey Misterioso Jr. is actually Misterioso's brother.
Misterioso II had a second daughter named Zulema, who died during childbirth in early 2019.
