Uses the name in tribute to his hero & trainer, the original America (who, in turn, was playing off the futbol team of the same name.) Controversy surrounds him as he lost his mask in 1998 but continued to wrestle it in. The name disappeared from Mexico City; he may have moved to San Luis Potosi, where the name surfaced a few years later and continues to be in use.

A luchador started using the name again in Mexico State around 2007; it's unclear if he's one of these wrestlers or someone new.
