Biography
Coming from a humble family he worked in construction since young. His friends were wrestling fans and they used to attend Martes de Coliseo. He was invited by his friends to train Lucha Libre. He was the only one who continued with his training until he became professional. He worked during the day and at the evenings he went to train. He was trained by Mr. Lince, Rolando Vera and Bulldog Villegas. His training was for three years and from the twenty aspirants who presented the exam he was one of the two who passed it.
His first in ring experience was on 1978 when there was a missing luchador for the first match. He was asked to take that missing place. Although his maestro was not conviced by the idea, however he went unmasked with a ring name that he cannot remember. After that experience he insisted to his maestro to make his professional debut. His maestro was the one responsible for his ring name, mask and gear design. His character was based on the mythological character Kharon, the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Styx. He was nicknamed as El Príncipe de las Tinieblas.
Since his professional debut under his new of Karonte he was presented every Sunday at different arenas. He had to overcome adversities during his career. On 1990 he had a trios match with As Charro & Gran Cochisse against Atlantis, Tony Benetto and another element at Arena Coliseo in which he suffered a serious accident. He suffered an stroke which could end his career. Nevertheless, he did not give up and with the propper treatment he overcame that situation.
During his active career he received diverse offers. He was programmed at Arena Coliseo and Plaza de Toros Monumental on the same date. His first championship was the Northern Tag Team Championship with Chamaco Arroyo in a tournament winning over Blue King & Ranchero. Another important Championship in his career was the Northern Middleweight Championship which he won against Maravilla Azteca. He defended this Championship seven times against opponents such as Valente Fernández, Panthro, Gitano del Norte until he lost it against Alejandro Fernández.
His Luchas de Apuestas Record is impressive. His first lucha de apuestas victory was the mask of As Negro, then the mask of Guerrero Samurai, El Escobero, Desafío, Mr. Punk, Doberman, Flecha Azul, and Los Fantasticos I & II. He also won the hairs of Caudillo, Valente Fernández, his brother Alejandro Fernández and Caifan Rockero I.
Besides of his in ring career he was a promoter for three years at Colonia La Alianza. He also assists his maestro Mr. Lince training and guiding future generations of wrestlers. Although he is regarded by his trainees as maestro, he does not considers himself as such. On October 15, 2017 Karonte retired after almost 40 years of wrestling caree in a retirement event in which participated his daughters, tag team partners, and rivals.
