The [[AAA World Heavyweight Championship]] was created to be the one grand championship in AAA. It's not the first attempt the promotion: the IWC World Heavyweight Championship had this purpose, while the AAA Campeón de Campeones Championship more explicitly tried to fill that void. Both belts failed to catch hold, and became a part of the collection of miscellaneous championships held by AAA wrestlers. The goal of the initial tournament was to take those other titles out of play.
