Guadalajara mystery luchadora Hecate did an interview on Facebook, and it explains a bit what’s going on with her being elevated to a higher spot quickly. She’s a high-level athlete who’s ended up in the CMLL system. Hecate was an amateur wrestler at the CODE Jalisco performance center, which trains youth athletes of various sports to represent Mexico at international competitions. Mascara Dorada was training in a similar place in CDMX until COVID hit. Alexius may still be doing that. She’s actually someone who looked down on wrestling as fake, then actually went to a show with a friend and realized there was much more to it than she knew. She’s been wrestling for about 15 months – first training with Guadalajara indy standard Makabre (and doing a more goth gimmick, which has been dropped outside of the name) and then getting scooped up by Guadalajara last October. She’s training with Satanico now. Her primary goal is improving, but she hopes to set foot in Arena Mexico someday.

Hecate’s match from last Tuesday seems to confirm that deal. She’s green, she makes mistakes, she needs more time before she’s really pushed, and I’m concerned what I’m writing here will come off as a bit too strong because she’s not there yet. Hecate also is clearly a natural at this, someone whose floor is “a more athletic Dark Silueta” and whose ceiling is “the best working luchadora in Mexico.” The easiest way to explain it is that Hecate moves differently, like you see with great wrestlers and like you rarely see with Mexican luchadoras. Miss Guerrera is also in that match; she’s been wrestling for five years, comes from a wrestling family, and still moves awkwardly around the ring. Hecate is quick and smooth with her movements. That part reminds me of Alexius too, but the joy and agony of Alexius is that he’s doing a lot of wild stuff for the fun of trying to see if he can pull it off, not with any plan behind. Hecate isn’t nearly as flashy, but seems to have a better sense of how a wrestling match is supposed to work, what stuff to do when. Hecate is not doing spectacular moves, and she doesn’t have the big-star personality of a Catalina or a Persephone, though she does come across as outgoing in that interview. She’s really just missing experience. Ideally, they’d ship her off to Japan for three months and let her work with all sorts of people away from Mexican eyes, but that’s not usually how CMLL operates. The best they can offer instead is to start moving her up against more experienced (if not necessarily better) wrestlers, which explains what’s been going on with her booking.

I figure there’s a weak chance Hecate makes her Arena Mexico debut in a couple of months if CMLL runs an all-women’s show in October. Again, she’s green, but she’s much better than the Puebla luchadoras they’ve put on those shows in the past. Better than some of the foreigners too. Hecate should be in Arena Mexico for the March 2027 all-women’s show. If wrestlers were stocks, I’d be putting a standard disclaimer here that Mexican luchadoras as a class are extremely volatile investments due to environmental factors and then giving a strong recommendation to buy. A more appropriate way to explain this for this blog is that there’s a good chance Hecate will be the new Mexican lady people on social media are very weird about by 2028.
