Current Champions

This championship is current vacant, inactive, and it's not clear which promotion is in possession of the title belt.

History of Championship

The NWA World Welterweight Championship is nominally a Mexico based championship, having actually been created before the formation of the NWA (and EMLL joining the NWA.)

The championship appeared to be forgetten after it was vacated in 1992. In 1997, it was filled, but soon taken and defended primarly in Japan. The NWA World Middleweight Championship, also an EMLL championship, was sold to Ultimo Dragon for his use in Japan around this this time, and the same may be true of this title. From 1999, it was used as a title in Ultimo Dragon-related promotions.
