The CMLL World Middleweight Championship was declared vacant on on August 10, 2021, when El Cuatrero left the promotion. On December 3, 2021, a tournament was started to crown a new champion. A seeding battle royal was hel, won by Soberano Jr. and Guerrero Maya Jr.. The quarterfinals and semifinals were also held on that day. The final match took place on December 10, 2021.
