== History of Championship ==
CMLL created a Japan Super Lightweight championship to be fought for when they toured Japan in 1999 and 2000. This is considered to be a different championship from the [[CMLL World Super Lightweight Championship|current Super Lightweight title]] by the promotion (CMLL positioned the present belt as a new title in 2003). However, some title histories (Source: [http://wrestling-titles.com/mexico/emll/cmll-sl.html Wrestling-Titles.com], NWA Pro) list the new Super Lightweight championship as being an extension of the old Japan version.
